Hermeus, a pioneering aerospace and defense technology company, has successfully completed the ground testing phase for its Quarterhorse Mk 1 demonstrator at Edwards Air Force Base in California. The ground test campaign, which spanned just 21 days, involved comprehensive testing of all vehicle subsystems, including software and hardware. 

The Quarterhorse Mk 1 demonstrator underwent rigorous taxi tests, reaching speeds of 130 knots (150 mph) with full afterburner on Edwards' iconic dry lakebed.

These tests validated aerodynamic model assumptions, assessed directional control, and evaluated the performance of control surfaces.


Technological Innovations

One of the standout features of the Quarterhorse Mk 1 is its custom Flight Deck, from which the aircraft will be remotely piloted. 

The ground testing phase included extensive human-machine interface (HMI) testing to optimize pilot inputs and enhance situational awareness. 

Redundant RF links and potential electromagnetic interference (EMI) issues were also addressed, ensuring reliable communication between the Flight Deck and the aircraft.

With ground testing complete, Hermeus is now finalizing the administrative efforts to obtain flight approval from the U.S. Air Force 412th Test Wing and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
